Outlive

by Peter Attia

I read Outlive before Attia was outed in the Epstein files.

An interesting property of all health books that focus on one particular activity, is that they all claim that this particular thing is the most important. By definition, at least N-1 of them must be lying.

Although Outlive does give some hints about the ranking of different things one can do to live a healthier lifestyle, it is generally quite tame about it. I also found that a chapter worth of a length is good enough on each topic, rather than a whole book. For example the chapter on sleep was quite more interesting than the whole Why we sleep? book by Matthew Walker.

So, what are the findings I remember? In no particular order.

Work in progress

Supplements

Eat Omega-3, vitamine D and creatine.

Cardio

Focus on VO2Max, do level 4 cardio for 30 minutes and level 2 cardio for 2 hours a week.

Weight training

The most important part! You lose a lot of strength when old, so if you want to be able to lift your 10kg suitcase into the overhead bin when you’re 70, you need to be able to do that with a 30kg one when you are 40.

Sleep

Don’t skip on it.
